NF.
Simple. Hero's, faster leveling (I personally hate the Proph slowness soo bad..)
And more fun IMO.
Though Proph get's kinda fun a bit into the story.

Would still go with NF.

Just my couple of cents ^^

I'd agree with NF for any class to start just for the heroes.

personally i would go with nightfall because its just faster , and with lvl 10 you can go to eotn. this you can also do if youve been run to la in prophecies though.
i also mostly base the campaign from where i start on the look :P
i just choose which character looks the best and then i make it

Oh that's a hard one!
C3:
- ugly characters (well, outside of some chicks)
- you need to grind the Sunspear title to be allowed to advance
- you get nooby heroes

C1:
- it takes AGES to get all the attribute points
- insanely slow paced

Still, beauty above all - so it's C1 for me personally (especially since you can get rushed through the parts you don't like).

NF is an unfun grindfest, you may not level as fast, but prophecies is worlds more enjoyable. You can get the other games for the skills/ heroes later.

A small (and important) detail is the look of the mesmer, for the decision of where to start, the look is so important to me that I start in the campaign with the most beautiful character

There are not "better" campaign for starting a new character, soon or later you will have access to everything.

For just basic learning how to play and get better as you go Campaign one is it.

For I am sick of the slow paced learning I am ready to get to lvl 20 Campaign 2

take the campaign which you can find a better looking character, because you cant change any of this later on, heroes and all that can wait until you need them, and it doesnt really matter if prophecies levels slower then nightfall tbh.

Doesn't matter if NF is a grindfest since doing nightfall isn't compulsary for a NF starting character.

Start in NF get the heroes and the extra attribute points then jump to lions arch get another hero and do prophesies.

I frequently start characters in Factions and NF then get the heroes level them up in the high point missions in factions then go enjoy myself in Eye of the North.

Go with the one that looks best to you. (Personally, I prefer the look of the NF toons over Prophecies, but that's me.)

Prophecies would make a good first Mesmer start, though, for 2 reasons: 1) the pace is slower, and that gives you the opportunity to learn your skills as you go along; and 2) free skills - via quests - that you wouldn't get starting in NF. (You can buy them later, of course.)

Drawbacks: no heroes & lame AI - and with all the tweaks they're doing to the AI, god only knows what your experience with that would be now. You can run/get run to Lion's Arch, which speeds up the pace of the campaign - better armor, the chance to get to Cantha or Elona, etc.

what? No Factions? I'm guessing since you didn't include it in there you probably don't have it, but it's very worthwhile to pick it up.

Factions is my prefered campaign to start in. You can breeze through it fairly quickly. Granted, the attribute quests aren't as good as Nightfall, but much better then Prophecies. Then hop on over to Kamadan and pick up a Talkhora, Koss, Melonni, Dunkoro and then Jin; swing around to GW:EN to pick up Vekk & Ogden; jump to LA to grab Olias, then head to Kaineng to do some very easy quests worth ALOT of xp to get you and your heroes up to level 20.

You've got alot of heroes, 3 monks, a warrior, a dervish, a necro, a ranger and an ele, without having to play through the Istan story line and slowly and painfully leveling them up, and with those quests in Kaineng they'll all be level 20 fairly quickly, and factions characters look pretty good too.

I always choose which chapter to start in based on the character faces alone. No other aspect of the choice is permanent.

If you want to be a mesmer, then you want to actually learn to play the game. For that, go through Prophecies. By the time you get to level 20, you will know the game mechanics well, and know how to play a mesmer right. Go through Nightfall and you will just grind through sunspear and have your heroes do your heavy lifting. Go through Factions and you will level so fast you might forget what class you are. At the least, you won't know as much as if you go through Prophecies.

If that doesn't matter to you...just pick the one with the prettiest mesmers(still Prophecies, IMO).

Factions, takes 30 minutes-1 hour to get level 15 heroes, and 20 minutes further to get level 20.

No, not 30 minutes-hour. Unless you have a friend level 20 and 2 other heroes, 3 on later parts of the Island.

It takes ~3 hours to get level 20 (was checking on my monk - could've gone faster if I wanted), so level 15 would be ~2,5 hours. But true, Cantha is the easiest to start.

I agree with Factions - gets you leveled up fast, a lot of the character designs are good, and you get to skip how retardedly out of the way the attribute point quests are in Prophecies and the stupid Sunspear grind of Nightfall.

BUT if Factions isn't an option, which I'm guessing it's not since OP didn't mention it, the Prophecies models look better but it's just so damn long and drawn out anymore. I'd probably choose Nightfall.

BTW - my Mesmer is Prophecies. It did help quite a bit in teaching me how to actually play the thing, so if not much mesmer experience - Prophecies.

Aye, NF is boring as hell...
But IMO, it's still better than proph to start a character in since it's not difficult to farm SS points
